Damtoz Andreas was born in Gunungkidul, Java, and graduated at the Faculty of Education Language and Literature Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta. Since 1995, along with the writer Dorothea Rosa Herliany he has run the publishing house Indonesia Tera, which is primarily specialized on books about culture and literature in Indonesia. In 2001, he got two book awards of Adikarya IKAPI for best cover design and the best graphic design. Beside his work as freelance graphic designer, he is director of the culture magazine Kolong Budaya and manager of the advertising company Left Studios. His works were shown at the same time in the national art exhibition Borobudur in Indonesia and at Schloss Burgau in Germany in June and July 2009, respectively. His pictures draw inspiration from the work of his wife Dorothea Rosa Herliany, since he visualizes the titles of her poems. Both artists received scholarships from the Heinrich Boll Foundation in the same year and lived and worked in Langenbroich, Germany. In October 2010, he exhibited One World One People with Boledansjah Tirtawidjaja and Lena Simanjuntak at the Smend Galerie in Cologne.
