Agus R. Sarjono

Agus R. Sarjono was born 1963 in Bandung, Central Java, and is one of the most celebrated authors of contemporary Indonesian culture. The works of this poet, literary scholar and playwright have been published in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Europe and the United States. He is co-editor of the literary magazine “Horison” and teaches theatre criticism at the School of Art in Bandung. He recreated the most important poems of Berthold Brecht, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Rainer Maria Rilke and others in Indonesian language. Together with Berthold Damshäuser he publishes the “Seri Puisi Jerman”, a series of classical German poetry translated into Indonesian. He has won several artist grants, for example in the Netherlands and in Germany, and taken part in various literary festivals around the world.
