Martin Jankowski, born 1965 in Greifswald, Germany, is a writer and curator living in Berlin. His songs, poems, short stories, essays and novels are translated in altogether 12 languages. He’s host of various Literary Salons as well as other international cultural projects. For many years he curated the programme “Specials” of the international literature festival berlin (Literature Festival), and chairs the Berliner Literarische Aktion e.V. He first came into contact with Indonesia through the legendary poet and dramaturge W.S. Rendra (Link) and ever since then he’s travelled throughout the archipelago and participated in various festivals between Banda Aceh und Westpapua. He became well-known in Indonesia especially following the publication of his cycle of poems entitled “Indonesisches Sekundenbuch – detikdetik Indonesia” (Indonesian book of seconds) as well as two other books and numerous cultural German-Indonesian exchange programmes. Since 2004, he’s been dreaming of a cultural festival joining the two sister cities Jakarta and Berlin that would finally open the door to the long-desired exchange between two fascinating cultures…
