Herlambang Bayu Aji lives in Berlin since September 2010, but was born in Surakarta. After he finished his high school in 2000 he worked in different cities in Indonesia and started to study fine art at Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta in 2001. With the support of SATU e.V. fuer Kunst, Jugend und Kultur he worked and collaborated with different artists from Germany and Indonesia or cultural exchange in both countries and organized International Youth Conferences in Surakarta. Furthermore he gave a Batik with Natural Dyes workshop and also went to Germany and the Netherland to do workshops about Batik and Wayang. Primarily he is a painter, but he also developed Wayang forms of his own art since 2005. He creates contemporary shadow puppets, which he calls Wayang Rajakaya. He did more than 100 puppets of paper, leather, bamboo and buffalo horn. After he finished his Bachelor of Arts he was invited by Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiners e.V., SKID (SozialKulturelle Integrationsdienste Camphill Schulgemeinschaften e.V.) and Camphill Schulgemeinschaft Bruckfelden to work as a volunteer in Natur Atelier, where his artistic influence was more requested than his pedagogic ability. Between 2007 and 2010 he was part of different exhibitions like Biennale Jogja IX, Exhibition of Indonesian Artist 2009 in Indonesian National Gallery, 5th International Performance Art Markt 2009 in Indonesian Art Institute of Surakarta and Biennale Indonesian Art Award 2010 in Indonesian National Gallery.
